How Do I Get Into Kiteboarding?

It is essential to book yourself in for a lesson first! Kiteboarding is so different to any other sports and is dangerous if you don’t take the correct training to learn this sport in a safe environment by a trained instructor. A 2hr lesson will allow you to get a taste for the sport teaching you all the basic fundamentals you will need to enjoy the smooth and speedy transition into kiteboarding.

In Lesson 1 you will learn:

- Safety, setup and spot choice
- Piloting the kite and discover the wind window and basics of kite aerodynamics
- assisted and self landing and launching
- body dragging and water relaunch (if conditions are suitable)
- pack down and maintenance

Duration: 2hrs

Cost: $180 (includes all equipment, instructor and insurance))

Equipment: All equipment supplied in this lesson.

After the first lesson what then?

After the first lesson you will understand further what Kiteboarding has to offer you, and this is the time to ask yourself if you are going to continue with the sport. Most of our students at this stage look at purchasing some equipment, whether it is new, second hand, or ex-demo, we will have a package that suits your budget. With all new kite purchases, we will throw in some more lessons to get you further advanced. (see Lesson 2).

In Lesson 2 you will cover

cotrolled body dragging and board recovery
self rescue drill
board skills
riding technique, kite positioning and upwind ability

Duration: 2hrs

Cost: $180 or Free with purchase of new Kite

Equipment: All equipment supplied in this lesson, unless you have your own.

A student will progress so much faster if they have their own equipment by this second lesson. If the student can get comfortable with their new gear, while an instructor is present then all the questions about the safety features and tuning of the kite can be easily explained. After this Lesson 2 is complete, most students are confident to continue practising in our training area at Town Beach.

If however you wish to do the Lesson 2 before purchasing your own gear, then we have any size kite to make that training session a success. Our advise on training steps is based on 12 years of teaching experience and our team and trained instructors are at the beach everyday to make your transition in the sport safe and fun.
